The purpose of the
University of the Third Age(U3A) is to encourage those over 50, retired
or not in full time employment to benefit from the activities provided
and to develop new interests. It is also an opportunity for members to
use their skills for the benefit of others.
Outlined below are just a few of the
comments made by members illustrating how they responded to
the U3A experience:
Joining the U3A was one of the
best things Ive done since I moved to Durham, not knowing
anyone. I have gained so much from the interesting monthly
meetings and talks and now know many people with similar interests Margaret.
To me U3A means enjoying the
companionship of like minded people who still have the appetite
for listening, learning and sharing a good lunch John.
I was a founder member of a U3A
six years ago and have made many friends in the study groups
I joined. Now I feel that to keep up I must learn to use a
computer, so I am on a special course, though at present its
all Greek to me! Shirley.
As newcomers to the North East, my husband and
I found U3A offered us social contacts in great variety. From
it sprang widening interests in music, poetry, bridge, theatre
and cinema, and friends in times of celebration and need
Ron and Mary.
